She tells Mr. Markham that she has finished the translations. She will send them soon. She asked him to send some more poems. Also she has been ask for the French form of the "Battle Cause". Her parents wish him well and remind him of their times on Governor's Island.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
